Sabbath's Symbolism

The Prophesy Podcast Blog

As you read the word of God you will begin to understand what Jesus did, and why.

In this blog, I will give scripture references and a brief description about what The Sabbath means.

There are three things to keep in mind about the purpose of The Sabbath Day.

  1. Ezekiel 20:12

"I made the keeping of The Sabbath a sign of the agreement between us, to remember I The Lord make them Holy."

The Sabbath day is a day to remember that God has made "them" Holy. Who are "they"?

The House of Israel.

Holy means to be sacred, separated, set apart, uniquely associated with God. The Hebrew word for Holy is qodesh. So, God made an agreement with The House of Israel, that they are the chosen ones out of all of the families on the earth that He created to be uniquely associated with Him and sacred.

2. Deuteronomy 5:12

"Observe the sabbath and keep it holy, as I The Lord your God have commanded you"

The Sabbath Day is a commandment for The House of Israel. A commandment means a divine rule being number four of the ten commandments. And we already know that Holy means uniquely associated with God and sacred. Also, notice in this text that God is saying to His chosen ones, that He belongs to whom He has chosen. He clearly states, "I The Lord your God".

So, The Sabbath is a day to remember that The Lord is your God. And observing this commandment is honoring one of The Ten Commandments.

3. Exodus 31:16

"The people of Israel are to keep this day as a sign of the covenant."

In this passage, Moses was on the mountain talking with God. Here is where God told Moses to write the ten commandments on two tablets of stone. A covenant is a promise, an agreement.

Today in this era we have the freewill to keep covenant with God, or not. It is totally up to each individual to choose what he or she wants to do.

Lastly, The Bible says, The Sabbath was made for man. Not man for The Sabbath. Jesus, Lord of the sabbath, was created by God as the son {God's son} of man, for The House of Israel. Jesus came into the world for salvation, and will return for the salvation of people. Only the Messiah is worthy of such an honor!
